Tips to Prepare for a Smog Check

Please remember to bring the DMV renewal notice or your registration. The technician needs to scan the bar code on your notice; it will take much longer to manually key in the 17 digit VIN number and license plate twice into the test machine.
Fill your gas tank with the manufacturer recommended gas.
Performing a Tune up & Oil change will help if you haven’t done one in a long time.
Make sure the check engine light or service light does not come on while driving. There is a 99.9% your vehicle will FAIL the test.
If you recently had a service performed on your vehicle and the battery had been disconnected or if the battery had recently run out of power, make sure you drive at least 100 miles for a complete drive cycle. Otherwise, your vehicle may FAIL the test for an incomplete drive cycle.
Replace all rotten vacuum hoses related to the emissions control system and make sure they are connected correctly according to the under-hood vacuum routing diagram; otherwise, it will fail visual inspection as well as the emissions test.
Make sure the tire pressure on your car is correct and make sure that they are in good condition. Otherwise, your vehicle may jump off from the Dyno machine during the high speed test.
